February Resident of the Month
February 19, 2025
This month, we are proud to recognize Anida Balmer as our February Resident of the Month!
Anida was born on January 2, 1931, to her parents, Nella and Bert, in the heart of Chicago, Illinois. As the youngest of three sisters, she grew up surrounded by love and the bustling energy of the city. She attended Fenger High School, where she fondly remembers cheering on her school’s football team as they competed in the State Championship—though they never took home the trophy, the excitement of those games stayed with her. After high school, she continued her education at a junior college in Chicago.
Anida began her career as a stenographer at a Crane Company, where fate had a special plan for her. While playing on the company’s bowling team, she met Chuck, the man who would become her husband. He worked in the engineering department, and their shared love of bowling led to a love that lasted a lifetime. The two married in August 1951 and soon after embarked on a new chapter in Ohio, when Chuck accepted a job at Republic Steel.
Together, Anida and Chuck built a beautiful life, raising four children—two boys and two girls—in the Cleveland area. Anida dedicated herself to her family, becoming a stay-at-home mom and later helping out at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where she found joy in assisting with various tasks while her children were young.
Anida has always had a love for reading, and that passion continues to this day. Here at Huntington Woods, she stays active and engaged, enjoying bingo, trivia, music, and exercise. And when it comes to food, you can always win her over with a plate of pasta!
We are honored to celebrate Anida this month and grateful to have her as part of our Huntington Woods family. Congratulations, Anida!
