Carmen Ramirez came to Huntington Woods in April from another Skilled Nursing Facility. Upon her admission to Huntington Woods, she was demonstrating exit-seeking behaviors and was frequently wandering with difficulty acclimating to her new environment. As part of her speech therapy plan of care, Carmen participated in The Huntington Woods Memory Lane Program. The Memory Lane Program is a language-based speech therapy designed specifically for residents with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. The purpose of this program was to maximize Carmen's remaining language function, facilitate communication, and manage negative behaviors and in turn, improving her quality of life.



Carmen's daughter, Bessie, was an active participant within her speech therapy plan of care to successfully assist her mother in the completion of all three phases of the program. The Huntington Woods Memory Lane Management Program empowers families to be actively involved in their loved one's plan of care by celebrating the whole person through the use of reminiscence therapy.
